A fall reset for reclaiming your time and energy
For many of us – solopreneurs, and especially coaches – this season brings a rush of ideas and inspiration. It also brings a reminder: you are in charge of your time.
Fall has a way of stirring things up. The air cools, routines shift, and there’s a subtle energy of new beginnings.
As I saw my son off for his final year of high school, I felt the weight of everything on my plate. But then came the realization, the gem I want to share with you today: Nobody is in charge of your schedule except you.
Why your schedule is your responsibility
The truth is, much of what feels like a burden is actually a choice we’ve made. Our days fill up because we’ve said yes – sometimes out of obligation, sometimes out of habit.
That’s not meant to guilt you, but to empower you. You always have scissors in hand, ready to trim away what no longer fits.
Think of your schedule like a garden:
- Some commitments need tending because they feed you and your goals.
- Some are weeds, taking up space and draining energy.
- Some were once beautiful, but now it’s time to let them go.
Even with family commitments, client demands, and community roles, the bottom line is clear: it’s up to you to decide how your time is spent.
Struggling to stick to a plan? You’re not alone
One of my clients recently asked, “Why can’t I stick to my schedule?” The reasons vary – AD/HD, constant new ideas, unexpected responsibilities. But no matter the root cause, the truth is the same: you are in charge of how you respond.
If focus is the goal, return to the foundation: sleep, exercise, nourishment, mindfulness practices, and medication/supplements (think: Productivity Success Cake!). This base layer of resilience makes everything else possible.
Remember why it matters
The world needs what only you can bring. Your creativity, your spark, your spiral-in-progress. The messy, colorful, one-of-a-kind work that only you can produce. Owning your schedule is about creating the space for you to show up fully as yourself.
So, as fall kicks off, pause and ask: What do I want to change in my schedule so I can live more fully into who I really am?
You are in charge. Always.
