The overlooked ingredient in entrepreneurial success

What a cartwheel can teach you about longevity in business

If you’re a neurodivergent entrepreneur – or even if you’re not – there’s one essential factor you may be overlooking in your quest for success: fun. Yes, fun. Not just productivity, not just hustle, but joy.

When we talk about sustainable success, particularly through the lens of AD/HD or other forms of neurodiversity, the traditional focus on structure and strategy often misses the mark. The real fuel? Motivation, challenge, and novelty. If those aren’t present, your engine simply won’t run for long.

Legacy Project or Playground? Know What You’re Building

When you dive into a new entrepreneurial venture, it helps to get honest with yourself from the start: Is this a legacy project? Or is it something that will serve you for a while—and then let you move on? Knowing this up front can help you avoid burnout and appreciate the phase you’re in rather than clinging to something that’s no longer joyful.

Both paths are valid. The key is recognizing your personal rhythm, how long you like to stay with a project, and how to build in the freedom to pivot or evolve as needed.

Making Room for Joy in the Day-to-Day

Fun doesn’t have to be flashy. It could be a moment of laughter, a walk outside, or in my case—doing a spontaneous cartwheel on camera (no pre-practice involved!). It’s a reminder that delight and silliness have their place in our productivity toolkit. They are not distractions—they’re fuel.

The invitation here is simple: ask yourself what’s fun for you. Then do that. Even if it’s just for a moment.
