You do not have to become someone else to sell your work well
Here we are in mid to late July, one of my favorite times of the year.
Today, I want to talk about something that comes up again and again for coaches, consultants, healers, and heart-centered business owners:
How do we invite people to work with us without feeling awkward, pushy, or overly salesy?
Because the truth is, a lot of us love the work we do. We love helping people. We believe in what we offer.
But when it comes time to actually say, “Here is how I can help you,” everything suddenly feels uncomfortable.
Pay attention to the words “your people” use
Recently, I have been loosely following a free program that will probably lead into a paid offer.
The woman teaching it calls her approach “sacred selling.” Her work is geared more toward healers, coaches, and people who may be comfortable in the spiritual or “woo-woo” space.
I was curious.
I wanted to see how she talked about selling, what language she used, and how she invited people into her paid work.
One thing stood out right away:
>>> She speaks the language of her people. <<<
She uses the same kinds of words they use to describe their work, their fears, their hopes, and the kind of business they want to build.
That MATTERS.
If you are speaking to someone in a corporate setting, you will probably use a different language than you would with a spiritual coach, an artist, a therapist, or a small-business owner.
That doesn’t mean pretending to be someone you are not!
It means understanding the people you want to help well enough to speak in a way that feels familiar to them.
Help people feel seen
When we talk about pain points and pleasure points, it can sound very marketing-heavy.
But really, we are talking about people.
- What are they worried about?
- What are they exhausted by?
- What are they quietly struggling with?
- What do they wish could be different?
- And most importantly, how do they describe those things?
When people hear their own experience reflected back to them, something shifts.
They think:
“She gets it.”
“She understands what this feels like.”
“She is talking to someone like me.”
That sense of being understood is often where TRUST begins.
A simple four-step approach
Selling can be much simpler than we make it.
- First, show people that you understand what they are experiencing.
- Second, help them see that the problem can change.
- Third, share a real story about how you or a client moved through something similar.
- Finally, offer a clear next step.
You are NOT forcing anyone to say yes. You are simply showing them that support is available. AND that it is POSSIBLE to get there….without excruciating pain, or…Failing Yet Again.
You do not have to become “that” salesperson
Many caring business owners worry that selling will make them seem dishonest or money-focused.
But offering a solution is not the same as pressuring someone.
You do not need fake urgency, complicated tactics, or a new personality.
Be yourself.
Talk honestly about the problem you solve, explain how you help, and make the invitation clear.
Sometimes people do not need another course, checklist, or productivity tool. They need support with the fear, self-doubt, overwhelm, or discomfort happening underneath the strategy.
That is one reason I value small communities like the Sacred Spiral. Technology can help us organize, plan, and learn, but it cannot replace real human connection.
If you are tired of working hard while still feeling stuck, let’s have a conversation.
You can sell your work in a way that is practical, compassionate, and true to you.
