Getting more done in less time without burning out

Shift from constant hustle to a sustainable rhythm of energy and rest.

For years I lived and breathed productivity. As a consultant and coach, I worked with countless entrepreneurs on systems, tools, and techniques to squeeze the most out of their hours. But in my mid-50s, I hit a wall. Life shifted, family needed me, and I faced burnout head-on.

This experience changed how I think about productivity. It’s no longer about doing more, faster. It’s about learning how to level up without burning out.

The power of cycles

If you identify as female, or carry strong feminine energy, you’re not wired to go nonstop. Our bodies, minds, and lives are built on cycles. Think about the seasons: autumn flows into winter, winter melts into spring, and spring bursts into summer.

The earth itself runs on rhythms.

Our energy works the same way. We have high-energy cycles where we can charge ahead, and lower-energy cycles where rest and recovery matter most. Pretending we can be “on” every hour of every day is the fastest path to exhaustion.

The myth of nonstop productivity

Here’s the tricky part: overworking often gets rewarded. People admire our dedication, our ability to push through, our willingness to “do it all.” But no matter how strong or resilient we are, burnout is inevitable if we ignore our need for balance.

I’ve seen it happen to people in their 40s, 50s, even 70s. High-achievers, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs: none of us are immune. The result? Motivation disappears, creativity stalls, and joy gets replaced by a dull sense of “going through the motions.”

Working with your energy

So what can you do? Here are three starting points:

  1. Recognize cycles. Accept- and HONOR- that your energy rises and falls, and that’s not a weakness. It’s nature.
  2. Honor your energy. Don’t push through low-energy phases. Rest when your body and mind call for it.
  3. Learn how to “be.” Stillness isn’t wasted time. It’s what fuels the ignition of your next creative spark.

When you build this rhythm into your work and life, you’ll find yourself getting more done in less time, without the cost of burnout.

Community and connection

This weekend, I’m leading a retreat where six women will gather in a Spiral. Together, we’ll step into practices like forest bathing, shared reflection, and intentional rest. Community reminds us we don’t have to do it all alone.

No matter your gender identity, the truth is universal: productivity isn’t about being a machine. It’s about being fully human.
