How much is enough?

I invite you to consider that right now.

You may not know the answer yet. So, give it a couple of minutes.

When we’re solopreneurs and doing most (or ALL) of the work ourselves, we often feel as though we have to stay ahead of everything.

We tell ourselves:

“I love my business.”

“I love my clients.”

“I love my work.”

And that’s wonderful. Of course it is.

But because we love what we do, we just keep doing MORE of it.

We create posts. We meet with people. We serve our clients. We write newsletters. We speak on stages. We apply to speak on more stages. We take another course and learn another skill…..

We love doing all these things.

Until suddenly, it becomes TOO MUCH.

Loving your work doesn’t mean you should never stop

Here’s the problem: when you love your work, it’s very easy to convince yourself that working all the time is perfectly fine.

You think, “I’m working because I love it. It’s all good!”

But… is it?

Because when you are always working, and putting your own needs last, something eventually happens.

You crash and burn.

And that’s the solopreneur’s problem a LOT of the time. We are so busy caring for the business and everyone connected to it that we forget the person the entire business depends on.

Ourselves.

When have you done enough for today?

Recently, I was meeting with my private Spiral group. It’s a group of amazing women, many of whom own businesses, although some are employed by other companies.

We started talking about the idea of “enough.”

Interestingly, the conversation came up because we were talking about going to bed.

Why is it so difficult to stop working and simply GO TO BED?

But when we dialed it back, we realized that bedtime wasn’t really the problem.

The real problem was the feeling that we had not accomplished enough during the day to give ourselves permission to rest.

There is always another task.

Another thing we could have finished.

And because we never reach that imaginary point where EVERYTHING is done, we never allow ourselves to truly stop.

But what if you could say:

“You know what? I didn’t finish everything I wanted to finish today, but I did a good job. I got enough done. The rest can wait.”

Imagine being able to say that and actually BELIEVE it.

Imagine being able to relax and rejuvenate without mentally reviewing your unfinished to-do list.

Without you, there is no business

This is so important because, last time I checked, without us, we have NOTHING.

Without our own well-being, we cannot build successful, profitable businesses.

We cannot be fully present as spouses, partners, mothers, fathers, friends, or members of our communities.

Create an “enoughness” pause

So, what is ONE thing you can do to create an “enoughness” spot in your day?

Pause.

That’s it. Just pause.

When a new request comes in, don’t immediately rearrange your entire day to accommodate it.

Ask yourself:

  • Does this need to happen today?
  • How does it compare with the priorities I already set?
  • If I say yes to this, what am I saying no to?

That tiny pause can make a BIG difference.

It gives you a moment to decide whether something deserves your time instead of automatically giving it your time.

Decide what enough means to YOU

If your definition of “enough” is finishing absolutely everything, you are never going to get there.

There will ALWAYS be another email, another idea, another request, or another task waiting for you.

So perhaps the goal is not to finish everything.

Perhaps the goal is to decide what matters most today, do that work well, and then allow yourself to STOP.

You deserve to rest.

Your body deserves it. Your family deserves it. Your company deserves it.

And YOU deserve it.

You do not need to be exhausted all the time, wondering why you can’t get to bed before midnight.

So, I’ll ask you again:

How much is enough for you today?

If you have questions or would like help getting your day, your work, your rest, and YOURSELF back under control, please send me a message. I’d love to talk with you.
