The holidays are here, and with them come colder nights, busier days, and for many of us, the pull to overgive and overextend. It’s easy to lose sight of our needs when we’re focused on creating joy for others. But this season presents an unparalleled opportunity to pause, reflect, and refocus—not to take away from giving, but to give from a place of wholeness. Today, I’m sharing a simple, yet powerful four-step process to help you slow down, articulate your needs, and balance giving with honoring yourself.

1. Remember What You Need

This step has two parts: remembering yourself and recognizing your desires. When life gets hectic, we often forget to check in with ourselves. Slow down. Take an energy inventory. Ask yourself, “Where is my energy going, and what do I truly need?”

For example, you might notice that you’re saying yes to every holiday invitation but neglecting downtime to recharge. Acknowledging this is the first step to realignment.

2. Articulate Your Needs

It’s one thing to know what you need, but it’s another to voice it. Start by articulating your desires to yourself. Write them in a journal, add reminders to your phone, or jot them on sticky notes.

Next, communicate them to those around you. Maybe you need help with holiday preparations or a few uninterrupted hours to focus on your business. Speaking up might feel uncomfortable at first, but it’s a vital practice.

3. Trust There’s Another Side

When you’re feeling exhausted or overwhelmed, remember that it won’t last forever. Trust that by addressing your needs now, you’re creating space for a better day tomorrow.

For example, on a recent tough day, I admitted to myself and my family, “I don’t feel great today.” That small act of honesty lifted a weight. By allowing my feelings to simmer instead of bottling them up, I found myself feeling lighter and more creative the next day.

4. Be Okay with Conflicting Values

The holidays often highlight the tension between wanting peace and honoring your own needs. It’s natural to feel torn. You may want to maintain harmony by saying “yes” to everything, but that peace can come at the cost of your well-being.

True balance comes from accepting these conflicting values and making intentional choices. For example, you might choose to delegate some holiday tasks or skip a few events so you can focus on what truly matters to you.

Beyond crisis mode: Strategic Thinking for tumultuous times

Turn turbulence into triumph with practical tips for resilience

NOTE! Be sure to read to the end for an unusual and amazing opportunity…

Most people I know are going through some up-and-down, tumultuous times right now. It’s not the same for everyone; these shifts impact each of us differently.

November 5th isn’t the same as March 2020. Some people, including you perhaps, may feel waves of intense feelings right now—crisis feelings. If that sounds like you, keep listening.

I originally created an eBook in March 2020, responding to that world crisis. But after waking up on November 6th this year, I realized it was time to dust it off and share it again. While I haven’t updated the content, I feel it’s still relevant, so I’m putting it out there.

Today, I’ll be sharing highlights from the insights I developed four and a half years ago. We’ll explore how to get ourselves out of crisis mode, grounded, and centered to become more of our true selves. Because as leaders, influencers, and strategic thinkers, life can pull us off balance, scatter us, and leave us feeling unlike ourselves. This guide was built precisely for those moments.

The Savvy Business Owner’s Guide to Thinking Strategically During a Crisis

This guide, which I created as a productivity specialist, is all about finding security and support during crisis times. Today, even as an evolved business coach, those ideas remain essential.

Let’s dive into some highlights:

Productivity Pyramid

When thinking about stability, it’s important to acknowledge feelings of fear and insecurity. Many people are experiencing these right now. Recognize those feelings as real—they form the base of the **Productivity Pyramid**. This concept combines Maslow’s hierarchy with productivity essentials, starting from a secure foundation and building upwards through health, support systems, and finally, productivity.

Stages of Crisis

Understanding the stages of crisis feelings can help us manage our responses. Here are the 10 Stages of Crisis you might relate to:

1. Disbelief – I spoke with people on the 6th, 7th, 8th of November who were experiencing this.

2. Panic – Some are worried about their businesses, feeling they’ll have to take every opportunity to ensure stability.

3. Anger and Blame – As reality sets in, anger can arise, sometimes directed at “the other side.”

4. Sadness and Grief – We mourn what we’ve lost or what we no longer have.

5. Acceptance – If you can reach acceptance, you’re doing great. Accepting reality helps us regain control.

6. Readjustment – Time to strategize and ask, “How do we keep moving forward?”

7. Attuning to a New Normal – Life inevitably brings change. Accepting this helps us adapt.

8. Listening for Strategic Prosperity – Look for what’s working. Even amid a crisis, there’s often an opportunity for growth.

9. Adjusting as Required – Staying flexible helps us navigate new challenges.

10. Peace – It may be hard to believe, but peace is attainable regardless of external chaos.

In the end, choosing peace can be transformative. Imagine if everyone believed that something good is on the horizon. It could change everything.

Having been through numerous crises, from global events to personal challenges, I know that these experiences build resilience. And I know there are more challenges ahead. Yet, every time, we come through stronger.

How to make time for things that bring you joy when you don’t have time

Balance in a very unbalanced world

Balance. We talk about it a lot, and many of us say we want it. Yet for years, I’ve been challenging the idea. As a Libra, I know balance is always on my mind, but I believe in the power of being *off-balance on purpose*. Today, I want to revisit the idea of balance—but this time, I’m diving into what *you* shared as the meaning of true balance in your lives.

Whether you’ve shared publicly or messaged me privately, certain themes have come up repeatedly. Here are four powerful themes, based on your words, that give us a unique approach to balance. I invite you to see which of these resonate, and think about how you might intentionally structure your life and schedule to bring in more of what matters to you.

The Four Elements of True Balance

When we’re clear on what we want, balance becomes about designing our days to meet those desires. Here’s the breakdown from your feedback—let’s see how these can work for you.

1. Your Life’s Great Work

The first thing people wanted was time to pursue what I like to call “your Great Work in the world.” This isn’t necessarily your 9-to-5 or a side hustle, although it could be connected. It’s that calling, that life’s work that pulls you forward. For many, balancing time for your great work with other responsibilities is at the top of the list.

2. Relaxation and Rest

Right up there with great work, people shared the need for dedicated time to *rest and relax*. Work can’t exist without downtime, and rest can’t be pushed aside until we’re burned out. This isn’t just about lounging; it’s about refueling so you can show up fully in your great work and everything else.

3. Movement and Health

Next came the desire for movement—exercise, getting outdoors, and focusing on healthy habits. Our work and rest are both supported by a strong foundation of health. Carving out time for these elements keeps us energized and capable of handling all that life demands.

4. Quiet Reflection Time

This one doesn’t always get the spotlight but is often what people feel most deeply connected to when they *do* make space for it: time for quiet reflection. Whether through journaling, meditation, or simple moments of stillness, these times help us reconnect to our intentions and keep our energy balanced.

Creating Balance That Sticks

So here’s a question for you to consider. If you begin your day with a sense of your balance priorities, how do you want to feel at the end of the day? If time for reflection gets pushed aside, does that feel like a major loss? How about exercise? Or your Great Work?

Treat each day like you’re preparing for a trip, and your time for movement, reflection, work, and rest is as important as packing the essentials for that journey. Knowing the destination gives us direction; knowing what we need helps us stay prepared.

Let’s Define Your Balance Together!

We’ll go much deeper into these themes on Veteran’s Day, November 11th at noon Eastern, in The Overachievers Club. This monthly session is free, and I’m excited to explore how each of us can build a balance that feels uniquely right.

If you’re ready to redefine balance for yourself and gain the clarity to put it into practice, join us! And…I’m unleashing  a surprise this month, so be sure to come along.  Can’t wait to see you there! 🕰️🌱
